    Itinerary

    Cusco City Tour:

The first day of your arrival it is advisable to make a City tour. They are picked up from your hotel between 10:00 hrs. and 10: 20hrs. You will have a guided tour through the center of the city of Cusco, visit the Temple of the Sun koricancha- and then go out to visit the ruins of Sacsayhuaman, Qenqo, Puca Pucara and Tambomachay, returning to the city 16:30 hrs.

    1.- The koricancha.-

We begin our Cusco city tour with a visit to the Koricancha temple, the pinnacle of Inca architecture and engineering. The Temple of the Sun, or Koricancha, is now the Convent of Santo Domingo.

    2.- Sacsayhuaman.-

The impressive fortress of Sacsayhuaman strategically builds itself on a hill from where it sees all of Cusco. It famously carves enormous stones, some of which measure 9 meters (30 feet) in height and weigh more than 350 tons.

    3.- Qenqo.-

Located four kilometers northeast of the city of Cusco, it has the archaeological groups of Qenqo Grande and Qenqo Chico. Etymologically, it means labyrinth or zigzag, served a purely religious function, being on the outside a semicircular amphitheater with trapezoidal niches and a monolith that simulates a puma which is approximately six meters.

    5.- Puka pukara.-

The term "red fortress" describes the structure because the calcareous stones used in its construction have taken on the reddish hue of the iron-rich terrain. Historians suggest that it served to protect Tambomachay, a significant palace during the Inca Empire.

But that, in turn, for its architectural layout and the existence of fountains, aqueducts and multiple enclosures, was a "tambo" that is, a collective shelter that offered inn and food to travelers, as well as the entourage that was to accompany to the Inca in his retirement in Tambomachay.

    6.- Tambomachay.-

"Situated about 8 km north of Cusco and near the ruins of Puka Pukara, this archaeological site served as a place for worshiping water and providing rest for the head of the Inca Empire. Visitors also refer to this site as Baños del Inca.". It consists of a series of aqueducts, canals and several waterfalls that run along the rocks.

The surprising thing about this is that from a main waterfall, the Incas created 2 secondary waterfalls, which are exactly the same. That is, if one places two empty bottles, one in each waterfall, the two are filled at the same time. We finished our Cusco city tour and returned to the city of Cusco.
