Itinerary
Day 1: Cusco - Mollepata- Challacancha to Soraypampa
We will begin our 5-day Salkantay trek to Machu Picchu with an early morning departure from Cusco. The journey to Mollepata takes approximately two hours. Here, hikers will have breakfast, then continue for another hour to the Challacancha area, where we will prepare for the hike.
The hike to Soraypampa begins around 9:00 a.m. This part of the trail covers approximately 8 kilometers and lasts approximately 3 hours, including breaks, until we reach Soraypampa, the campsite.
This part of the trail initially has a slight incline and then flattens out steadily, offering views of lush landscapes and mountain peaks. We will see the snow-capped mountains of Salkantay and Humantay.
In the afternoon, we will visit the Huamantay Lagoon, located very close to the camp. We will enjoy dinner at the camp and rest under the stars.

Day 2: Soraypampa to Chaullay
The day begins with breakfast at camp. Then we’ll prepare to ascend to the highest point of the trek, the Salkantay Pass, at 4,630 meters (15,190 ft) above sea level. This stretch is challenging and takes about 4 hours to conquer. After reaching the pass, you will descend to Chaullay. During the descent, we’ll have lunch in Huayracmachay.
You’ll walk through changing scenery. Witness rugged mountains and tropical areas. This part of the hike takes approximately 4 more hours. You will camp and dine at Chaullay, resting after a strenuous day.

Day 03: Cloud Forest
The third day begins with a hearty breakfast before starting the hike through the Cloud Forest. This environment, rich in flora and fauna, offers a unique experience. During the hike, you'll observe a wide variety of plants typical of a tropical area.
The hike to La Playa takes approximately 5 hours and covers about 15 kilometers. This trail is less demanding and features a gentle descent. The campsite in Lucmabamba offers a warmer climate and the opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty. After lunch, there is an option to visit the Cocalmayo hot springs in Santa Teresa (optional). Return to the campsite for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Lucmabamba to Aguas Calientes.
After breakfast, we’ll trek to the Llactapata ruins. This takes about 2.5 hours. From here, you will catch your first view of Machu Picchu from a distance. After exploring Llactapata, we’ll descend to the Hydroelectric Station. The path takes about 2 hours. We’ll have our lunch in the Hydroelectric Station.
Followed by a 3-hour walk along the railway tracks to Aguas Calientes. This leg of the journey offers natural sights. We’ll arrive to Aguas Calientes to rest.
Enjoying a well-deserved hot shower and a comfortable bed. If we arrive early you may go to the Aguas Calientes Hot Springs (not included). Prepare for the hike to Machu Picchu the next day.

Day 5: Tour Machu Picchu and Return to Cusco.
The Machu Picchu Salkantay Trek 5 Days will take you to a world wonder. You will rise early for breakfast. You’ll catch the first available bus to Machu Picchu. Enjoy a 2-hour guided tour of the site, learning about its history and significance. After the tour, there's time to explore independently. You can climb Wayna Picchu if pre-booked.
The return to Aguas Calientes by foot (optional bus) will be around midday. You’ll have some time to go for lunch (not included). Then you’ll take the train to Ollantaytambo. Then a bus will bring you to Cusco. The Machu Picchu Salkantay Trek concludes with your arrival in Cusco by evening.
