Overview
The Palcoyo Trek is one of Cusco’s best-kept secrets and a fantastic alternative to the famous Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca). Located in the stunning Andes south of Cusco, Palcoyo offers breathtaking multicolored mountains, panoramic views of the surrounding valleys, the impressive Stone Forest, and spectacular vistas of the snow-capped Ausangate Mountain—all with a much shorter and easier hike.
Unlike the crowded trails of Vinicunca, Palcoyo provides a peaceful and authentic Andean experience, making it ideal for families, seniors, photographers, and travelers who want to enjoy the beauty of the Rainbow Mountains without a strenuous trek.
Palcoyo is known as the "Alternative Rainbow Mountain" because it features not just one colorful mountain but three rainbow-colored peaks surrounded by dramatic Andean landscapes. The vibrant red, yellow, green, and orange stripes were formed by mineral deposits over millions of years, creating one of Peru's most unique natural wonders.
Visitors can also explore the remarkable Stone Forest, a collection of natural rock formations sculpted by wind and erosion, offering incredible viewpoints over the Vilcanota Mountain Range.
*Difficulty level depends very much on your fitness and acclimatization.
