Itinerary

RED VALLEY- RAINBOW MOUNTAIN – CUSCO DAY TREK.

Early Morning Departure

  • Cusco Departure: The day starts early, around 3:00 to 4:00 AM, with a pick-up from your hotel in Cusco. You’ll drive for several hours through the Sacred Valley, passing through small Andean villages.
  • Breakfast Stop: There’s usually a stop for breakfast in a local village, such as Cusipata, where you can fuel up before the hike.

Arrival at Trailhead

  • Starting Point: The trailhead is typically near the community of Phulawasipata, at an elevation of around 4,600 meters (15,100 feet). After a brief introduction and preparation, the trek begins.
  • Hike to Rainbow Mountain: The initial part of the hike is often to Rainbow Mountain, which takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. The trail ascends gradually, with stunning views of snow-capped peaks and colorful hills.

Visit to Rainbow Mountain

  • Rainbow Mountain Summit: Upon reaching the summit of Rainbow Mountain, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of the vibrant, striped landscape. After spending some time here for photos and rest, you have the option to continue to the Red Valley.

Trek to the Red Valley

  • Descent into the Red Valley: The trek continues from Rainbow Mountain with a descent into the Red Valley. This section of the hike is less crowded, and the scenery changes dramatically as you enter a valley covered in reddish-brown soil and rocks.
  • Exploration: The Red Valley is a vast, open area where you can explore the unique landscape. The contrast between the red earth and the surrounding mountains creates a surreal environment. Your guide will lead you to the best viewpoints and explain the geological formations.
