If you are looking for a unique and exciting way to get to Machu Picchu, consider doing it by car 2 days 1 night. Although most visitors arrive at Machu Picchu via train or hiking, traveling by car will allow you to enjoy a more personalized and flexible trip.
To get to Machu Picchu by car, you must first get to the city of Cusco, the capital of the Inca Empire. From there, you can organize your trip, with a formal tourism company or tour operator, that will take you on this impressive trip. The car trip will take you approximately 4 hours, but it will allow you to enjoy beautiful landscapes and stop along the way to take photos or explore local villages. There will be a hike from Hidroeléctrica to Aguas Calientes for approximately 2 hours, along a pedestrian path with beautiful views.

Itinerary
Day 01 – CUSCO – OLLANTAYTAMBO- AGUAS CALIENTES.
Departure from Cusco 07.00.a.m: The trip begins in Cusco, usually in a van or minibus. The first part of the journey is on a paved road to the town of Santa Maria. This is a tropical area and gateway to the jungle of the city of Cusco. From Santa Maria, we continue to Santa Teresa, a small town famous for its hot springs. Here we will have a stop for lunch and a short break to relax, then we will continue the trip. From Santa Teresa, to the Hidroeléctrica station, the closest point to Machu Picchu that can be reached by vehicle.
Here begins our hike to Aguas Calientes. From Hidroeléctrica, you have to walk for about 2-3 hours (11 km), along a pedestrian path, following the train tracks to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Town). The hike is quite easy and follows a flat path, surrounded by nature and beautiful views.

Day 02. – MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO.
Very early the next day we will board the bus from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu. We will have a guide for approximately 2 hours to see the main places in the Inca city of Machu Picchu, and then return to the town of Aguas Calientes. Keep in mind that you only have to get to Puente Ruinas and from there you walk back to Hidroeléctrica. Here you can have lunch and board the transport back to Cusco at the established time, passing through Santa Teresa and Santa María again. Return time in Cusco 10.p.m approx.
