Overview

PARACAS: is the capital of the district of the same name in the Ica region of Peru. A small city, dedicated to tourism, for its port. Paracas serves as a starting point for trips to the Ballestas Islands and the National Reserve. Paracas covers an area of 335,000 hectares, of which 117,406 are from the mainland and 217,594 from marine waters.

PARACAS RESERVE: From its fishing port, excursions begin to visit the Ballestas islands, Chincha islands. Within its limits is the Paracas National Reserve. It is one of the most attractive tourist areas on the entire Peruvian coast. This is due to its great diversity of fauna and flora, existing within the Paracas National Reserve, making it the only protected area in the entire country. Here you can see archaeological remains of the Paracas culture, also the place where San Martín landed with six ships (on September 7, 1820).

ETYMOLOGY: Paracas is located in an area where strong air currents transport sand, hence the name of the city “Paracas”, Quechua: for (rain) and aco (sand), sand rain.

ICA CITY: Located in the narrow valley that forms the Ica river, and the western slopes of the Andes. The first inhabitants settled in the Ica region about 9000 years ago. The “man from Paracas“, discovered in the Pampas of Santo Domingo, dates from the year 6870 BC. C. constituting the second oldest horticulturist in Peru.

TOURISM IN ICA: Ica Regional Museum, here we can observe, from prehistoric artifacts to the Spanish colonial era. Pre-Columbian lumps and mummies are displayed, with elongated skulls, ritual deformation, perhaps a mark of the elite. Some skulls also show evidence of trepanation, a type of brain surgery. There are also furniture, paintings, and artifacts from the Spanish colonial time.

The Huacachina oasis, located 5 km from the city of Ica, is surrounded by large sand dunes, suitable for practicing sandboarding, as well as other adventure sports. You can also visit the vineyards, extensive plantations with various products, the town of witches, famous place in the city.
