Useful Information

Palcoyo Mountain is a less crowded alternative to the famous Vinicunca Mountain, known as the Mountain of Seven Colors. It is located in the Cusco region of Peru and is characterized by its colorful mountains formed by the accumulation of minerals in its sedimentary layers.

General information about Palcoyo:

  • Location: Canchis Province, Cusco, Peru.
  • Altitude: Approximately 4,900 meters above sea level.
  • Difficulty: Low to moderate. It is more accessible than Vinicunca, since the hike is short (approximately 1 hour).
  • Climate: Cold and dry, with temperatures that can drop to 0°C in the early morning.
  • Best time to visit: From April to November, when there is less rain.

Attractions in Palcoyo:

  • Colored Mountains: These are three mountains with reddish, green and yellow tones due to the oxidation of minerals.
  • Stone Forest: A natural rock formation that resembles a petrified forest.
  • Panoramic views: You can see the snowy Ausangate, the highest in the region.

Palcoyo is ideal for those looking for a quiet and less physically demanding experience compared to Vinicunca.
