Ausangate Trek 4 Days 3 Nights

Cusco, with a great variety of phenomenal walks in the Peruvian Andes. The Ausangate Mountain Trek & Vinicunca / Rainbow Mountain are colorful mountains that can only be seen in 3 parts of the world (Vinicunca – Peru, Purmamarca – Argentina and China). This is the spectacular, recently discovered Rainbow Mountain, officially named Vinicunca. The majesty of the landscape, turquoise lagoons, make this road unique in the region. In addition to the landscape, you will appreciate hordes of alpacas and llamas, as well as the indigenous habitat of Vicuña Inca (which has the most expensive wool in the world). You will also learn about the traditions of Andean people with visits to local villages.

USEFUL INFORMATION:

Machu Picchu, is not everything. We have many places so that your tourist friend can enjoy your vacations and leave the beaten path and enjoy nature and fresh air.

DAY 1: CUSCO – TINQUI – UPIS AGUAS TERMALES.

We will pick you up early in your hotel, for an approximate 2 hour trip to the village of Tinqui. On the way we will observe the impressive mountain range of the Vilcanota, and we will pass through several traditional Andean villages, here we will have time to stop and take some photos. When we reach Tinqui (beginning of the road), we will have a delicious breakfast prepared by our chef. Here our support staff will arrange all the group equipment and packages for the horses and our walk officially starts. We begin our tour of the local communities and enjoy the breathtaking views of the mountains. We will walk for about 3 hours and get to the place of our lunch. After lunch we continue for another 2 hours to reach Upis (4,100 m). Our camp here will have the opportunity to bathe in the hot springs before dinner. Overnight.

DAY 2: UPIS – PASO ARAPA – PUCACOCHA

After a great breakfast we are ready to leave our camp and start our hike. We will ascend the Arapa Pass (4,850 m). From here we will enjoy the contrast between the dry road like the hills and the impressive snow-capped mountains. Ausangate and Pucacocha. This area also has three beautiful lakes with shades of red, green and turquoise (Pucacocha, Hatun Pucacocha and Qomercocha). Our second camp is near the Ausangate Glacier.

DAY 3: PUCACOCHA – PASO AUSANGATE – PASO MINASNIYUQ – SURINE COCHA

This day you will be awakened with “room service” (a hot cup of coca tea). This is going to be one of the most beautiful days of the walk. We will see rainbow mountains in the distance. In addition, on the trip today, we will pass through the town of Alccatauri. The day starts with an uphill climb of 1 ½ hours until you reach the Ausangate Pass (4,930 m). In this pass, we will see red mountains and also have the opportunity to see vicuñas, chinchillas and alpacas.

After enjoying, we descended an hour and a half to reach the town of Alccatauri (4,400 m). Here we will observe the customs and traditional life of the Andean people. There are no trees in the area, so there is no wood to make houses. The residents are very enterprising and make their houses mud mud and also fire with natural fuel, dung, animal dung. Here we will perform an Andean barter. In exchange for your generosity and hospitality, we will offer you the coca leaves. This is very valuable because this basic Peruvian food can not be grown in this climate.

After this incomparable experience, we will walk about 30 minutes uphill to our lunch spot in a rustic hostel. After a delicious lunch, we will start our journey uphill to the second step. After 1 ½ hours, we will follow the trail to the Minasniyoq Pass. Here we will have our first views of the Rainbow Mountains (5,020 m / 16,469 ft). In this step, we will make a small offering to the Pacha Mama (Mother Earth). To reach our camp on the side of the Surine Cocha lagoon (4800m)

DAY 4: SURINE COCHA – ARCO IRIS MOUNTAIN – QUESIUNO – CUSCO

After breakfast we walk gradually for 2 hours until arriving at the famous Rainbow Mountain (5,020 m). Here the guide will look for the best places to take photos as we will be the first people to reach these incredible mountains. Here Your Guide will explain to you, what makes these mountains so unique: they are composed of several minerals, which make different colors of stone striations. Not only is this one of the most impressive places in Peru and South America, this type of mountains are seen in Argentina and China on the other side of the world.

After taking photos and enjoying the scenery, we will continue on the trek to Quesiuno. This is a 2 ½ hour descent hike. Place where we will have lunch, here our private transport will be waiting to pick us up after the lunch. It will be a 3 hour trip to Cusco. After one of the most rewarding experiences in your life, we will drop you off at your hotel. The approximate time of arrival is 6 PM.
